NIU KQI-Series/SEGWAY G30P
The electric kick scooters are classified as MPTDs (motorized personal transport devices) in Montréal and are part of a pilot project launched on July 20th, 2023.
To use an electric kick scooter in Montréal you must:
1. Be at least 14 years old
2. Wear a helmet that meets provincial regulations
3. Ride alone (no passengers or cargo)
4. Set a maximum speed of 25 km/h
5. Ride on roads with a speed limit of 50 km/h or less
6. Do not ride on bike lanes with signs forbidding electric kick scooters
7. Max motor power of 500 watts
SEGWAY P100/GT2
These vehicles can only be used off-road or on private property.
NIU BQi-Series/DYAD Banana Boss, C04, S04, F04
In Quebec, these classify as electric bicycles, and you must follow some rules to ride on the roads.
1. Motor can't exceed 500 watts
2. Ride at a maximum speed of 32 km/h
3. Be at least 16 years old
4. Must have working pedals to be road legal
5. Wear a certified helmet
NIU UQi series/DYAD DS1
These models have been made illegal in Quebec. We have stopped selling them in the province as of July 30, 2024.

In Quebec, until July 30, 2024, UQIs/DS1s were classified as electric bicycles, and had to comply with certain rules to be used on the roads.

Electric scooters with speeds of up to 70 km/h are popular in Quebec. These vehicles have to comply with certain rules to be used on the roads.
1. They must be registered with the SAAQ and have a license plate.
2. Possess a valid driver's license or probationary license
3. Ride at a maximum speed of 70 km/h
4. Drive on roads with a max limit of 70 km/h
5. Wear a certified motorcycle helmet
6. Have a front and back braking system
